Why are my RSVP notification emails going to spam?

Last updated July 1, 2026

The most common cause is sending from AddEvent's default @addevent.com sender address. Switching to a custom sender email on your own domain - available on paid plans - resolves most spam issues immediately.

Why the default sender causes spam

Email spam filters evaluate the "From" address against the domain's reputation. A generic third-party address (@addevent.com) has a lower trust score with some filters than an email sent from your own verified domain (@yourcompany.com).

Fix 1: Set up a custom sender email (recommended)

On Small Business and above, you can configure AddEvent to send RSVP emails from your own email address and domain. AddEvent guides you through adding SPF and DKIM DNS records to verify your domain - once set up, emails pass spam filters at a much higher rate.

Fix 2: Verify your custom domain (SPF/DKIM)

If you've already set a custom sender but emails still land in spam, check that your domain's SPF and DKIM records are correctly configured. AddEvent's email settings page shows verification status and instructions.

Fix 3: Check your email content

Spam filters also scan message content. Avoid:
  • All-caps words (FREE, URGENT, ACT NOW)
  • Excessive exclamation marks
  • Misleading subject lines
  • Large image-to-text ratios with very little text

Fix 4: Ask attendees to mark as Not Spam

For your first campaign from a new sender address, ask attendees to add your sender email to their contacts or mark the confirmation email as "Not Spam" if it lands in their junk folder. This trains their filter for future messages.

Fix 5: Contact AddEvent support

If you've done all of the above and emails still land in spam, reach out to AddEvent support. They can review your setup, check for domain blacklisting issues, and advise on deliverability improvements specific to your configuration.
