Why isn't my event showing up in Google Calendar after subscribing?

Last updated July 1, 2026

Google Calendar can take up to 12–24 hours to sync a newly subscribed calendar. This is a Google-imposed limitation on how frequently they refresh external calendar feeds - it's not an AddEvent issue.

Why the delay happens

When someone subscribes to your AddEvent calendar, Google Calendar creates a connection to your iCal feed URL. But Google controls how often it polls that URL - and for external calendars, they typically poll once every 12–24 hours to reduce server load on their side.

How to force an immediate sync

Subscribers can trigger a manual refresh in Google Calendar on desktop:
  1. Go to calendar.google.com
  2. In the left sidebar under "Other calendars," find the subscribed AddEvent calendar
  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to it
  4. Select Refresh
This forces Google to poll your AddEvent feed immediately. Events should appear within 1–2 minutes.

If events still don't appear after 24 hours

  1. Confirm the subscription completed successfully - in Google Calendar settings, check "Other calendars" for your AddEvent calendar
  2. Try unsubscribing and re-subscribing using the AddEvent Follow Calendar link
  3. Check that your AddEvent calendar is set to "public" - private calendars may not be accessible to Google's servers
  4. On paid plans, enabling push notifications in AddEvent can signal Google to sync sooner when you update events

Does this affect Apple or Outlook subscribers too?

Apple Calendar and Outlook also cache subscription calendar data, but typically refresh more frequently - Apple every 1–24 hours (user-configurable), Outlook every 1–3 hours. The 12–24 hour window is primarily a Google Calendar characteristic.
