Will changes to an event automatically update in attendees' calendars?
It depends on how the attendee added the event - subscription calendar subscribers get automatic updates; individual Add to Calendar clicks do not.
Subscription calendar subscribers - yes, automatic
If someone subscribed to your AddEvent subscription calendar, any change you make syncs to their calendar app automatically on the next poll (typically every few hours for Apple/Outlook, up to 24 hours for Google Calendar).
This covers:
- Title or description changes
- Date and time changes
- Venue or location updates
- Cancellations (the event is removed from their calendar)
- New events you add to the same calendar
Individual Add to Calendar clicks - no automatic update
If an attendee clicked an Add to Calendar button or link for a single event (not subscribing to a calendar feed), the event is saved as a static entry in their personal calendar. Changes you make in AddEvent do not propagate to that static entry.
To reach these attendees after a change: send a manual update email via AddEvent's RSVP messaging, or share the updated event link and ask them to re-add it.
RSVP attendees
If attendees registered via an AddEvent RSVP form, you can send all of them a manual email update directly from your AddEvent dashboard. The calendar entry they added at registration will not auto-update, but your email can include an updated Add to Calendar link.
The best setup for audiences who need live updates
Use a subscription calendar. It is the only method that keeps your audience's calendar entries in sync with every change you make, without any action from them.
