Does AddEvent collect personal information when someone clicks an Add to Calendar button?

Last updated July 29, 2026

When someone clicks an Add to Calendar button or link, AddEvent records that a click occurred (for analytics) but does not collect the individual's personal information such as name, email address, or identity.

What happens when someone clicks Add to Calendar

  1. The user clicks the button or link
  2. AddEvent logs the click as an anonymous event-add (for your analytics dashboard)
  3. The user is shown a calendar picker to choose their preferred app (Google, Apple, Outlook, etc.)
  4. Their calendar app adds the event directly - this handoff happens in the user's browser
At no point does AddEvent ask for or receive the user's name, email address, or any personal identifying information from a standard Add to Calendar click.

What AddEvent analytics does track

  • Total number of Add to Calendar clicks per event
  • Which calendar app was selected (Google vs Apple vs Outlook vs Yahoo)
  • General click timing and trends
This is aggregate, anonymous analytics data - not linked to individual users.

When personal information IS collected

Personal information is only collected when a user actively submits an RSVP form - providing their name, email, and any other fields you have configured. RSVP data is subject to your privacy policy and AddEvent's data processing terms.

GDPR and CCPA compliance

AddEvent is SOC 2 Type II certified, GDPR compliant, and CCPA compliant. For events with RSVP forms, AddEvent acts as a data processor and you act as the data controller - meaning your privacy policy governs how attendee data is used. Full details are in AddEvent's Data Processing Addendum.
