Is AddEvent suitable for private or invite-only events?

Last updated July 1, 2026

Yes. AddEvent has built-in controls for private and invite-only events, including access codes and direct-link-only sharing.

Access codes for event landing pages

You can apply an access code to any event landing page. When someone visits the URL, they're prompted to enter the code before they can view event details or RSVP. This is appropriate for:
  • Internal company events visible only to employees with the code
  • VIP or invitation-only events
  • Events where you want to control who can RSVP

Access codes for calendar landing pages

Same functionality applies to subscription calendar landing pages - visitors must enter a code before they can view the calendar or subscribe.

Direct link sharing with no public listing

All AddEvent events and calendars are private by default - they don't appear in any public directory or search result. The only way someone can access your event is via a link you share with them. This makes AddEvent appropriate for:
  • Private corporate event calendars shared only with employees
  • Invite-only events distributed by email to a specific list
  • Internal training schedules

What AddEvent doesn't offer for private events

AddEvent doesn't have a gated attendee portal where specific invitees log in with their own credentials. Access control is URL + access code based - anyone with the URL and code can access the event. For highly controlled invitation lists (specific named invitees only), RSVPify's tiered guest management offers more granular control.

Practical recommendation

For most private business events - internal all-hands, training sessions, VIP customer events - the combination of direct-link sharing (no public listing) plus an optional access code provides sufficient access control without added complexity.
