About the role

You are an experienced Head of Engineering with exceptional technical skills, leadership capabilities, and a track record of successfully delivering complex engineering projects. You enjoy coding and you lead by example, proactively making decisions and building solutions. You have experience building scrappy, high-performing engineering teams and can skillfully collaborate with product and growth teams to support dynamic product development and rapid growth at early-stage SaaS companies. As our Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for hiring exceptional engineering talent, building best-in-class product, and balancing a long-term vision with immediate business-critical software delivery. You will report directly to the CEO and work with leadership to create a long-term technical vision for the company.

This is a full-time, in-person (3 days per week) position in our San Francisco, California office. This role comes with an excellent compensation package, including a competitive salary, equity, a performance-based annual bonus, top-tier health, dental, and vision coverage, and a relocation stipend if applicable.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Strategy & execution: you will collaborate with company leadership to set and drive the technical vision and strategy for the company to support sustained, rapid growth as the company scales. You will actively develop and deliver high-quality products while working closely with the product team to ensure projects accomplish their intended goals within budget, while remaining on course and meeting or exceeding aggressive timelines.
  • Technical leadership: you are a strong engineer with system-level thinking, a passion for innovation, and a unique ability to operationalize engineering teams. You will drive technical excellence throughout the organization, and lead the team in adapting to changing technologies and industry trends, reducing technical debt, and ensuring the codebase supports the product roadmap and business strategy. You will also be responsible for ensuring product security, data governance and maintaining overall compliance. You will utilize your prior experience to help AddEvent "see around corners", anticipating risks and future technical hurdles and proactively implementing solutions to ensure business continuity.
  • Defining & managing process: you will implement best practices such as CI/CD pipelines, test automations, and code reviews to enhance our engineering capabilities and efficiency. You will evaluate and improve our current agile processes, while remaining flexible and encouraging our processes to evolve to ultimately ensure engineering's ability to effectively plan, execute, and deliver on complex engineering projects on time and within budget.
  • Team development & management: one of your primary responsibilities will be to attract, hire, and retain talent to build an exceptionally high performing and motivated engineering department from existing team members and new hires. You will do this both now and as we scale, ultimately creating a team that becomes one of AddEvent's competitive advantages in the industry. You believe that a smaller team of A-players is stronger than a larger team of B-players, and will work to foster a positive and collaborative culture between local and remote team members through management, mentorship, and support, working to maximize the potential of individuals and the entire team.
  • Business acumen: You have a deep understanding of the link between the products we build and the revenue they generate (both directly and indirectly). You will use your knowledge of business principles, market dynamics, and customer needs to tackle complex technical challenges and align engineering initiatives with overall business objectives. This will require you to manage budgets, resources, and timelines effectively to optimize productivity and deliver projects within allocated resources.
  • Leading collaboration: you will be responsible for cross-functional collaboration, seamlessly aligning technical initiatives with the broader company goals. This will involve working closely with both internal (product, growth, customer success) and external (customers, end-users) stakeholders to ensure all needs are met.
