Christian Vistan: Rice Cooker Book Launch

Artist and 221A Fellow Christian Vistan launches their limited edition book, Rice Cooker, and presents a new work with Kiyoshi Whitley, A Brighter Summer Day! Join usas Christian concludes their 18-month Fellowship. 

Rice Cooker is a 700-page cinematic object documenting Christian and Kiyoshi’s 2023 performance at Boombox, photographed by Natasha Katedralis. The book is accompanied by a paratextual essay by Hamish Hardie.

A Brighter Summer Day includes a reading from Christian, performance from Kiyoshi Whitley, and a site-specific optical installation by the two artists.

• 2:00PM Reception & Rice Cooker on Display and Sale

The Project Space itself will be transformed into a camera obscura, in reflection of Christian’s practice and interrogations.

⏰ Please arrive 10 minutes before your showing begins. 
🚫 Photography and videography of the performance is not permitted. 
🥂 Refreshments will be served.

Please note:  

• The performance takes place in a darkened room with very minimal lighting. 
• Attendees will mainly be standing during the performance. If you have access needs, please request wheelchair/seating space in your RSVP. 
• This event is not open to children.
