The Assael coral collection has arrived at our Los Angeles office for one month before heading to Europe.
This came to us through our work with Assael’s pearl collection over the past year. It’s not something we set out to source, and it’s unlike anything we’ve handled before.
Christina Assael built the collection with Enzo Liverino in Torre del Greco, where his family has worked coral for generations. It represents decades of work at the highest level.
Hisano will introduce the collection live on May 6th at 3:00 pm Pacific, walking through a selection of pieces and explaining the three coral types.
Angel Skin is a soft pink coral from waters off Japan and Taiwan. Today it is highly restricted; these pieces are from vintage coral held by the Liverino family.
Sciacca coral is subfossilized material formed after ancient volcanic activity. No new supply exists, and only a finite amount remains.
Sardinian coral, Corallium rubrum, has been worked in the Mediterranean for centuries. It grows slowly in deep water, producing dense material in shades from pale rose to deep red. The examples here are unusually large.
The collection includes strands and finished pieces across all three types, from smaller works to museum-level examples.
Following the livestream, pieces will be available for private viewing, in person or virtually, by appointment.
