City of Dance is an ambitious, multi‑day initiative that will transform public spaces across Los Angeles. The project makes its debut in Century Park, which will become a stage for a series of free, site‑specific dance performances open to the public, giving audiences the chance to encounter movement in unexpected places, before continuing onto other sites across the city.
This hour‑long work is set to Philip Glass’s full score from the non‑narrative film Koyannisqatsi (1982). Created by a collective of internationally renowned artists including Dimitri Chamblas, Benjamin Millepied, Jamar Roberts, Pam Tanowitz, and Madeline Hollander, City of Dance engages audiences with themes of modernity, speed, ecology, community, sustainability, and “life out of balance.”
