Join us for a celebration and discussion with Dr. Tricia Rose for the 30th Anniversary rerelease of Black Noise -- her groundbreaking book on hip hop and its ties to everyday life. Friday, October 23rd from 10:00am - 12:00pm ET on Zoom. 

Many of you were able to learn directly from Dr. Rose in Gathering Ground's fall 2025 workshop series, led by Dr. Rose: Way Outta No Way: Systemic Racism and Resilience.  We are delighted to welcome her back to the Gathering Ground community.

In honor of the 30th year anniversary of this landmark book, Dr. Rose released a 30th Anniversary eBook Edition of Black Noise! This special edition includes:

• New Essays from leading scholars, including Marc Lamont Hill, Robin D.G. Kelley, George Lipsitz, Nasir Marumo, and Andre C. Willis.
• A New Author Afterword where Dr. Rose challenges readers to reassess the current realities of hip hop study and culture.

About Dr. Tricia Rose:
Dr. Tricia Rose is internationally recognized for her trailblazing insights and ability to deepen our understanding of complex social issues. Tricia’s pioneering body of work includes the groundbreaking study of hip hop (Black Noise, 1994), a moving oral history of Black women’s sexual lives (Longing to Tell, 2003), a critical assessment of hip hop’s evolution (The Hip Hop Wars, 2008), a first-of-its-kind systems analysis of racism (Metaracism: How Systemic Racism Devastates Black Lives–And How We Break Free, 2024) and the uniquely immersive experience on systemic racism and resilience, Way Outta No Way (2025). She earned her Ph.D. from Brown University and her B.A. from Yale University. She is a professor at Brown University, where she now serves as Chancellor’s Professor of Africana Studies and Director of the Systemic Racism and Resilience Project.
