Wednesday, March 24, 9:00am - 10:00am (EDT)
Former White House telecoms and cybersecurity advisor Eric Burger talks about the anti-spoofing rules imposed during his time as CTO of the FCC, and whether the same technologies and principles will be adopted in other regions. The US adoption of the STIR/SHAKEN protocols mean phone users will receive advice on whether an inbound call is from a trusted source. The US has also increased penalties for illegal robocalls and encouraged more stringent automated blocking of traffic from unverified sources.
Will foreign telcos volunteer to join a US-led club to reduce spoofing and imposter frauds? Other regulators say they are monitoring the FCC's progress, but are they willing to be rule-takers instead of rule-makers when it comes to authenticating calls across borders? To what extent can telecoms security objectives vary to reflect requirements in different countries? Regular presenters Eric Priezkalns and Lee Scargall will ask these questions and many others submitted by the live audience.
