In 2019, we focused on advancing Gender Lens Investing (GLI) in the public markets, culminating in a successful prototyping event co-hosted with UN Women.

This May 11, 13 and 15 – in the context of COVID-19 and its broad implications for gender lens investing – we turn our attention to the GLI private markets universe, which still lacks consolidation despite pre-COVID-19 accelerated GLI growth. There are over 87 GLI private markets products available today, but the offerings are fragmented and lack the scale required for large institutional investors to deploy significant pools of capital. Unaddressed, this hinders GLI private markets AUM growth.

The areas we will interrogate and design are:

1. Consolidation of Gender Lens Investing definition and its link to ESG?

Based on emerging categories and/or criteria similar to Equileap’s Scorecard?

2. What fund structures, investment instruments and fund sizes accommodate LP requirements?

3. What Performance (financial and non-financial or impact) data matters?

What are the metrics? How data should be captured and packaged for marketing and reporting purposes?

This workshop will be a unique opportunity to inform and catalyze gender responsive capital at the scale needed to deliver on the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. You will be in the company of other decision makers – asset managers, asset owners, angel investors, ecosystem builders, fund managers and entrepreneurs.

Day 1: Monday May 11 / 11am – 12:30pm EST

Day 1 is about ensuring we are all aligned. We will level set with relevant presentations; review of assignments and scoping for the subsequent two sessions.

Day 2: Wednesday, May 13 / 11am – 12:30pm EST

On day 2, each Team will convene in a zoom meeting room to ideate around 1 of the areas outlined above. Identifying specific challenges and developing solutions for market validation.

Day 3: Friday, May 15 / 11am – 12:30pm EST

On day 3 each team will validate solutions with LPs. Additionally, teams will return to the main meeting room to share with the group. We will conclude by defining next steps for each designed solution.
