Meet the artist Katherine LaMere - Fortman

Nonna Maria's will host Purview, a solo exhibition of new mixed media works by Pattersonville artist Katherine LaMere-Fortman.
Inspired by childhood memories of the View-Master — the classic stereoscopic toy that let viewers peer into faraway places in 3D — Purview invites viewers to step up and look into a series of deep shadow box frames, each containing an abstract, imagined landscape. "You cannot visit these mercurial places," LaMere-Fortman says, "but perhaps you can look at and dream about them."
LaMere-Fortman comes from a family of makers and photographers, and art has been part of her life for as long as she can remember. She holds an AS in Art from Adirondack Community College and a BS with honors from The College of Saint Rose, where she dual-majored in Studio Art and Graphic Design with minors in Painting and Drawing.
Early in her career, LaMere-Fortman worked primarily in oil on canvas, creating large hanging works in series. Her practice has since evolved into small-scale mixed media pieces on paper, layering paint, paper, and mixed materials to build texture and depth. Her work is informed by the physical beauty and discord found in nature, and she aims to create an ephemeral environment for viewers to explore.
Purview marks a continuation of that exploration, translating a deeply personal memory into an invitation for viewers to imagine places of their own.
