Wednesday, December 1, 10:00am - 11:00am (EST)
Join cityCURRENT in partnership with Shelby County Schools and New Leaders on December 1st for a virtual tour of the newly constructed Alcy Elementary School, followed by a moderated Q&A session with school and district leadership. The tour will spotlight the school and their learning model, how they are building a culture focused on student success, how it plays an important role in the greater Reimagining 901 plans for Shelby County Schools, and how the nonprofit New Leaders is helping to equip principals and educators to achieve these goals.
Shelby County Schools completed construction on Alcy Elementary School in late 2020. The three-story, 115,760 square-foot space was the culmination of a three-year project period and is the third new building to open in the district in the last several years. The new model prioritizes project-based learning for kids, with architecture to support more "non-traditional" learning environments. The school has an amphitheater, outdoor eating and teaching areas, classrooms designated for visual and performing arts, and computer labs, and is outfitted with the latest technology in the classrooms.
