This case study comes to us directly from Corne Els, who worked with FEM South Africa to stem the emotional toll from the COVID pandemic that no one was prepared for. Through a year-long process of assembling data to inform on the strategic pivots for mental health, Corne invites us to take stock about the impetus of change management in:
•How the emotional state of the employees was assessed and tracked as it evolved;
•How the role of line managers critically changed overnight despite being under psychological pressures themselves; and
•How management faced off unprecedented new situations, such as the return of the workforce to the office or the anti-vaccine sentiments that further complicated risk-management measures.
