JVP COMMUNITY LIBERATION SEDER

Join us for a sit-down Pesach (Passover) ritual for anti-Zionist Jews and community of all backgrounds to sit down together, connect, and contemplate this holiday of liberation during ongoing genocide in Gaza. 

Drawing from the JVP 5784 Haggadah, Rabbis for Ceasefire, and other sources, we will discuss and reflect on what makes this year different from all other years, and consider the implications of saying “next year in liberation” for Palestine. What does taking action for Palestinian liberation ask of us this year? What do we need from each other, to really undertake this commitment to Palestinian liberation? How can we draw on our community’s strengths during these terrible times? And how can we rely on each other and care for each other as we fight for liberation?

Note: In alignment with JVP National guidelines and in recognition of the ongoing starvation in Gaza, we will not share a festival meal together. However, we will be sharing ritual food items from the Passover seder plate. This is because, like generations of Jews before us, we recognize the power of engaging with these foods in an intentional, embodied and sensory way as an aid to contending with liberation, together. We will be using these foods not in a celebratory or feasting manner, but in a manner that encourages contemplation.

ACCESS INFO

😷 COVID & Masking: This is an outdoor event. Please wear a KN94/N95 mask. We will have extras available. This keeps our bodies safer + those with heightened risk levels safer. Folks will be occasionally lowering masks when eating and drinking. We request folks to please stay home if you are experiencing COVID symptoms or came in contact recently with any who have, and encourage folks to take an at-home test before you head over.

🚌 Transportation: Lots of free street parking available within 50 yards of the event space. Space is near the 75, 35, and 44 bus lines.

🪑 Mobility and Movement: This will be a seated event, at picnic table benches. We will have a few folding lawn chairs available for use, and you are welcome to bring your own seating. The space is accessible via paved pathways, about 50 yards from the street. Park bathrooms are about 30-40 yards from the covered picnic area.

☁️ Weather: Event will be outdoors, under a covered shelter. Rain is not forecast at this time, but do check and dress accordingly.

🥨 Food: Various seder plate foods will be present. Please let us know if you have dietary needs around any particular foods (listed below).

🎙️ Auditory: We will have an amplified speaker and a mic. No ASL interpretation provided. Some speakers may use languages such as Arabic or Hebrew phrases, which may not be translated.

💡 Visibility: Event will take place during daylight. We will be reading from a printed Haggadah. If you would like a large-print version of the text, please be in touch with the event organizers.

🐤 Childcare: We are still working on it, but will likely have a kid-friendly table, activities, and adults to provide childcare. Please indicate if you are in need of childcare in the RSVP form.
