Session 3: THREE FLAVORS OF CONSENT
Consent is so much more than a polite "is it okay if I share something?" before saying whatever they were going to say anyway.
Real consent is what makes the difference between a client who tolerates your coaching and one who's genuinely in it with you. It's the difference between advice that lands and advice that sits on a shelf. Between a client who implements and a client who nods and disappears.
There are three distinct types, and knowing which one a moment calls for is the skill.
Earned Consent. The unspoken green light that comes from a deep coaching relationship. No words needed. You've built enough trust that you both just know.
Curious Consent. When your instinct catches something beneath the surface, you ask permission before going there. "I'm noticing something underneath what you're describing. Would you be open to exploring it?"
Deliberate Consent. When you hand the client a real choice at a crossroads, not a leading question, but two genuine options. "I'm hearing two things going on. We could work on the email you want to send, or we could dig into what motivated the original announcement. Which feels most important today?"
Most coaches spend their whole career using one type without knowing the other two exist. You'll leave Week Three knowing exactly which one each moment calls for.
