DESCRIPTION:Biking and birding along 5 Mile Creek Greenway: (Bike required.) Picture Rights & Owner Todd DeVore The 5-mile creek greenway is about 8.5 miles long\, connecting Fultondale to the outskirts of Brookside in Jefferson County. The path is mostly a former railroad line route\, a "rails to trails" type path that is flat and mostly consists of hard-packed crushed rock used by bicyclists. The plan is to bike at a leisurely pace from the Fultondale end to the Brookside end\, stopping every mile or so or when the habitat is promising\, or the birds are showing themselves nicely. Our stops may be 5-10 minutes in duration\, depending on what we see. When we reach the end of the 8.5-mile trail\, we will just head back the same way to our cars in Fultondale. We will see several habitat types\, including more open areas and mature woods along the creek. \n\nThis is our first trip for us covering the greenway like this\, but we expect it to be fun! \nMeeting Place and Location: The meeting place is Black Creek Park at 7:30 AM. Park in the area by the ballfields. Location Address: 777 Yarbrough Rd\, Fultondale\, AL 35068\, United States.\n\n Target Bird Species: Likely birds include Belted Kingfisher\, Red-Headed woodpecker\, Kinglets\, and hawks like Red-Shouldered. We will probably have some early warblers\, including hooded warbler\, and we may find some winter visitors like pine siskin or Red-Breasted nuthatch. This event is free but registration is required. \n https://alaudubon.squarespace.com/config/#:~:text=https://birmingham.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/birmingham/eventRegistration.jsp?event=3037&\nREGISTER  https://alaudubon.squarespace.com/config/#:~:text=https://birmingham.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/birmingham/eventRegistration.jsp?event=3037&\n\nField Trip Leaders: Todd DeVore (205) 873 - 5482 // Greg Harber (205) 807-8055 Please contact your field trip leders day of the event for questions.
