Africa Day is an annual commemoration of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which took place on May 25th, 1963. The OAU was formed with the goal of promoting unity and solidarity among African countries and advancing the political and economic development of the continent. Today, Africa Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, with events and festivities highlighting the diverse cultures and contributions of African people. In 2022, the theme for Africa Day is "Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa We Want", emphasizing the importance of preserving and celebrating Africa's rich cultural heritage as a means of promoting unity and development.
