    Management of neuromuscular blockade is a pivotal skill for modern clinical anaesthesia practice that came across as profound advancement. Neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs), usually administered to facilitate endotracheal intubation and/or to improve surgical conditions can aid in mechanical ventilation in patients with poor lung compliance.

    While mostly used in the operating room environment, we should not underscore their importance in the ICU setting as well. The neuromuscular blockade should be monitored for all patients who receive NMBAs during anaesthesia, to guide discontinuation of them as well as reversal agents, and to assess the degree of recovery. Clinical implications of residual neuromuscular block, still frequent in clinical practice, are important risk factors in anaesthetic-related morbidity and mortality.

    On this webinar, starting from an interactive clinical case discussion, we will discuss the clinical use and pharmacology of commonly used NMBAs, their reversal agents, methods for neuromuscular blockade monitoring as well as clinical implications and strategies to prevent postoperative residual neuromuscular block.

    Management of neuromuscular blockade is a pivotal skill for modern clinical anaesthesia practice that came across as profound advancement. Neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs), usually administered to facilitate endotracheal intubation and/or to improve surgical conditions can aid in mechanical ventilation in patients with poor lung compliance.

    While mostly used in the operating room environment, we should not underscore their importance in the ICU setting as well. The neuromuscular blockade should be monitored for all patients who receive NMBAs during anaesthesia, to guide discontinuation of them as well as reversal agents, and to assess the degree of recovery. Clinical implications of residual neuromuscular block, still frequent in clinical practice, are important risk factors in anaesthetic-related morbidity and mortality.

    On this webinar, starting from an interactive clinical case discussion, we will discuss the clinical use and pharmacology of commonly used NMBAs, their reversal agents, methods for neuromuscular blockade monitoring as well as clinical implications and strategies to prevent postoperative residual neuromuscular block.
