A Nurse Perspective: The Medical Complications of Eating Disorders

Abstract:
Eating Disorders are complex psychiatric conditions that can lead to a wide range of medical complications. These complications often affect nearly every system in the body and can have long term consequences if not identified early. Many individuals with eating disorders seek help from medical providers, but their symptoms are often misdiagnosed or overlooked. Conversations about food and eating behaviors are avoided. This presentation will offer clear and accessible overview of the medical issues that can arise with from eating disorders. By increasing awareness in our healthcare communities of the medical sequela of eating disorders, this presentation aims to support early intervention and improve outcomes.
