ABOUT THE SALON SERIES
Rituals are understood as a predefined series of symbolic actions, usually formal and repetitive, without a clear practical purpose. Despite some people dismissing rituals as emotionally charged superstition, scientists have demonstrated that even basic rituals can significantly improve our mindset, emotions, and actions. But more importantly, there is magic and movement and wonder in the possibilities that emerge from intentional rituals. We’re excited to launch a community exploration of rituals, old and new, with one community member per gathering asked to lead us in a practice that speaks to some form of collective celebration, memorial, gratitude practice, and/or reverence.
The ritual can come from any tradition, any religion or cultural practice, any family or community. It can be a simple song, poem, or dance, a celebration of food, a storytelling practice with special cards, books, or other sacred objects, or a traditional creative act with materials and art-making at its core.
We can engage in rituals that strive to be pure forms of very old practices repeated for millennia or mish-mashes of many small practices that you and your friends came up with in university residence back in the day. Most importantly, the rituals need to feel meaningful to you, and sharing these practices is meant to share possibilities for broadening our attention and stirring our embodied sense-making, together. We hope to be left feeling like we’ve shared something special that is worth repeating some day.
This event is open to Coralus Activators (past and present), Coralus Ventures, and guests. Space is limited, so please RSVP only if you're able to make it.
With gratitude and anticipation,
Isabela and the whole Coralus Toronto community
