SUMMARY:Electricity Retail Markets under Stress
DESCRIPTION:The rise in energy prices has put retail markets under considerable stress since the second half of 2021. Although prices have increased all over Europe\, the impact of the price shock and the reaction of national regulators and governments have been different. CERRE’s latest issue paper “Electricity Retail Markets under stress” looks at specific case studies and initiatives taken by European countries (France\, Norway\, The Netherlands\, and the UK) since the beginning of the crisis and draws some initial lessons learned that may help in thinking about improving the design of wholesale and retail markets. \n\nThis issue paper is to be released as the first step of an ongoing research project aimed at drawing lessons from the current crisis and identifying what net-zero means for the future of wholesale and retail electricity market design. \n\nIt is the research project’s first publication and aims to map some key issues and overarching principles at retail level. The authors explore how European retail electricity markets have been coping with the current energy crisis in the form of short-term measures.\n\nOn Wednesday 13 July at 14:00 CEST\, CERRE will hold a public workshop https://bit.ly/3yBvO5U to present and debate the paper with authors Catherine Banet\, Chloé Le Coq\, Nils-Henrik M. von der Fehr\, Michael G. Pollitt\, Bert Willems\, and representatives from regulatory bodies\, industry and the European institutions.\n\nThis workshop is free and open to all\, but registration is required. Please register here https://bit.ly/3R4zfJw to receive the connection details. \n\nIf you can’t join us live then the workshop will be available to replay on the CERRE YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfXa5FI_cptb2LsKl54PGAw/videos afterwards.\n\nWe warmly encourage you to s https://cerre.us20.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=c0acf743b176c0b6f410d991b&id=a0152d1d2bign up for our newsletter https://cerre.us20.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=c0acf743b176c0b6f410d991b&id=a0152d1d2b to keep up to date with all of our latest events and activities.
