If you've ever had a head and neck cancer patient spend the whole session fighting their own secretions, you already know how much of their day saliva and mucus can take over. It's one of the most common problems in this population, and one of the toughest to treat. In this live session, Craig Clary, M.S., CCC-SLP, looks at dysphagia through a wider lens than aspiration (and even swallowing) and walks through the medical and therapeutic strategies for managing secretions after head and neck cancer. Craig practices at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, where he specializes in voice, swallowing, and head and neck cancer. He sits on the Piedmont Health Atlanta CNS Tumor Board alongside radiation oncologists, and he teaches dysphagia and instrumental assessment at New York University. He'll show you how to use evidence-based guidance to build or revise your secretion management protocols, then demonstrate the strategies and work through a case study so you can see them in practice. You'll also leave with patient-facing resources you can hand off, and there's open Q&A at the end for your own cases. Join us October 29 from 8:30 to 9:30 PM ET. This intermediate-level course is available for 0.10 ASHA CEUs.
