Abstract: This symposium will include speakers from a range of disciplines who will provide different perspectives on the ethical issues presented by the pandemic for those who care for children. Speakers include: Alyssa Burgart, MD, a pediatric anesthesiologist who is Chair of the Ethics Committee at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University; Helene Gayle, MD, MPH, a pediatrician who is President of the Chicago Community Trust and Co-Chair of the National Academy of Medicine’s working group on justice in the allocation of COVID vaccines; Laura Specker Sullivan, PhD, a philosopher-bioethicist whose work focuses on disability and cross-cultural understanding; Doug Diekema, MD, MPH, a pediatric ER physician and past chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Bioethics; and John D. Lantos, MD, a pediatrician and Director of the Children’s Mercy Bioethics Center.
