Several Nordic cities and regions have experimented with citizen's assemblies in local policy development and decision making.
- How can we make citizen's assemblies components - like sortition, deliberation and expert/experiental knowledge - permanent tools in the municipal toolkit?
- Which cities are following the path towards institutionalization in the Nordics and how far have they come?
- What are the barriers towards implementing a permanent citizen's assemblies in local government?
These questions and many more, we hope to explore together in the next Nordic Deliberation learning call. You will hear from:
- Tove Lill Karlsen, Trondheim Municipality, Norway
- Antti Rajala, City of Jyväskäla, Finland
- Jenny Antonsson, City of Gothenburg, Sweden
- and other experts and practitioners
About The learning call is open to everyone – and especially relevant for those who work in the public sector or with democracy and participation and want to understand how the citizen's assembly model can be used in municipal administrations.
The call is organised by the partners in the Nordic Deliberation network: SoCentral, We Do Democracy, Digidem Lab, and Sitra.
The Nordic Deliberation network has received funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding programme Demos for the project Nordic Deliberation Network - Enhancing Democratic Resilience.
