SUMMARY:Co-investment in Networking Sharing
DESCRIPTION:Digital connectivity plays a fundamental role in stimulating innovation and progress in all sectors of the economy. To achieve widespread connectivity though\, significant investment is required in the telecommunications sector. Encouraging investment has become a central objective in recent reforms of the telecommunications regulatory framework and legislative initiatives.\n\nTo speed up the deployment of fixed and mobile very-high capacity networks\, cooperation within the telecommunications sector and beyond is needed. From a public policy perspective\, allowing for cooperation between competitors may involve a trade-off. On the one hand\, cooperation allows operators to share risks and costs\, improving their ability to invest and innovate. On the other\, there is the concern that cooperation may harm competition.\n\nJoin us on Monday 25 October at 14:00 CEST for an open discussion the potential pros and cons of allowing for cooperation between telecom operators\, based on the relevant economic literature and previous CERRE research on co-investment and infrastructure sharing. A presentation of CERRE’s latest Issue Paper “Cooperation between Telecommunications Operators for Infrastructure Deployment” by leading academic Marc Bourreau will be followed by a discussion with senior academics\, regulators\, and policymakers.\n\nThis webinar is free and open to all\, please register here to receive the connection details: https://bit.ly/3DdXU6Q
