Quick facts: born into a wealthy family, Clare heard St. Francis of Assisi preach. She asked him to help teacher her how to live the life of the Gospel. She left her family and joined the Benedictine order, cutting off her long hair and trading her gown for a plain robe and veil. Eventually, she started her own order later called the St. Clares. While ill, an army of soldiers came to attack the town of Assisi. St. Clare stood at the edge of town holding up a Monstrance and the soldiers retreated.
