With the July changes to CLIA PT goals, laboratories face an unprecedented challenge. PT expenses and failures will go up, but this pain will not be felt equally across methods, instruments, and laboratories. Necessarily, some instruments and methods will need more stringent QC. Before the failures impact laboratory operations, it’s critical to assess the ability of methods to pass the new PT QC and to implement optimal QC.
