REASONINGS OF RESILIENCE: A HIP HOP & MINDFULNESS INTENSIVE with Chris Jeter (Ages 14-21)

This intensive will focus on understanding the meaning of resilience through the use of mindfulness and hip-hop. In unpacking the meaning of resilience, participants will explore current social issue(s), their impact(s), and engage in developing practices that promote individual and communal well-being. Each participant will learn mindfulness skills, and identify personal strengths and community factors that help with self-efficacy and resilience as a response to current social issues.
 
 
Please note: This is a workshop in two parts, split into two different evenings.

Dates: Wednesday, May 24 & Wednesday, May 31 (2 workshops total)
Location: Conover Studio (Live Arts, 123 E Water St, 4th floor)
Tuition: $30

 
Minimum 4 students, Maximum 10 students
 
Chris Jeter (he/him), known as i.D., is a wellness advocate who uses creative expression and mindfulness practices to promote high-level wellness - an individual's active commitment to maximizing their potential. Chris promotes wellness through his roles as an artist, mental health professional, and yoga/mindfulness teacher. Each of these layers helps Chris deepen his practice of wellness and spirituality. In November 2021, i.D. released his album [i.D.]entity: Return of the Free. This album also gave rise to his documentary [i.D.]entity: The Journey Toward Free, which was selected to be showcased at the 2022 Afrikana Film Festival in Richmond, VA. As an artist, Chris has participated in residences at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, and the Contemporary Arts Network in Newport News, VA. Furthermore, Chris currently serves as a Songwriting Fellow for the Virginia Commission for the Arts in their inaugural year of the fellowship. Chris began his journey to teaching yoga and mindfulness at Faith Hunter's School of Yoga in Washington, D.C. Since receiving his 200-hour Certified Yoga Teacher certificate, Chris has taught numerous classes in Richmond, Hampton Roads, and Washington D.C. In August 2021, Chris graduated with a Master of Education in Counselor Education and has experience working with primary and secondary schools in the Richmond Metro area. Through his counseling practice, he has utilized mindfulness-based and expressive arts interventions to promote wellness. Chris has successfully implemented music and mindfulness programs focused on building skills to identify and creatively express emotions. Currently, Chris serves as a Quality Mental Health Professional and is a Behavioral Health Coach with the mindfulness company Headspace Health. His aims are to develop and implement culturally relevant interventions promoting wellness on both individual and communal levels.
