Abstract:

While it is difficult to provide an exact number of individuals affected by both eating disorders and ADHD, research indicates a heightened risk for eating disorders in individuals with ADHD. Studies indicate that the risk can be three to six times higher than average.

This suggests that clinicians treating eating disorders need more education and training on assessing ADHD symptomology to ensure they can support clients in addressing and treating both.

This panel will provide an opportunity for attendees to hear and learn from a multidisciplinary team about how to best help clients with both ADHD and eating disorders.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to identify co-occurring symptoms of ADHD and EDs.
2. Participants will learn helpful strategies to help clients manage ADHD behaviors/symptoms while addressing ED behaviors.
3. Participants will better understand how to assess whether behaviors are related to an ED diagnosis or are better accounted for by an ADHD diagnosis.
