Target Audience:
Anaesthesiologists, Intensive Care Medicine doctors and Surgeons who want to update their knowledge about patient blood management (PBM) during major surgery.
This webinar will be open to anyone who wishes to view it, from whichever country they can access it.
Methods to promote adult active learning:
This webinar will include:
Polls: to increase interactivity and engagement. Results from polls will lead to discussions points.
Q&A sessions: to answer questions brought up by the host and submitted by the audience (in real time). Questions will be filtered by support staff to prioritise relevance.
Learning Aim
To inform health-care practitioners and health educators about the pre, intra and postoperative care of patients undergoing surgery or invasive procedures, particularly those in which relevant blood loss is anticipated.
After Taking Part
This webinar will enable the participants to:
Describe the interventions to increase haemoglobin concentration
List the medications that affect hemostasis and recall their respective cessation intervals
Define a massive transfusion protocol
Interpret basic blood management point-of-care findings
Discuss the triggers for blood component transfusion
Critically appraise the effect of liberal versus restrictive red blood cell transfusion protocols
Key points
Use of patient blood management protocols in Anaesthesia
Use of massive transfusion protocols in Anaesthesia
Content
Interactive debate format on patient blood management during Anaesthesia
Learning Objectives
Knowledge to be acquired after attending this Webinar
The participant will be able:
to list medications that affect haemostasis, recall their respective cessation intervals and reversing options
to describe the mechanisms of severe/massive bleeding and means to avoid massive transfusion (PBM) and name massive transfusion protocols
to identify perioperative strategies that minimise blood loss
to indicate the triggers for allogeneic blood transfusions and procoagulant drugs
to discuss the main recommendations of the evidence-based guidelines in this field and its limitations
Practical skills to be acquired after attending this Webinar
This webinar will enable participants to:
Describe the application of cell-salvage devices on patients
Interpret point-of-care viscoelastic haemostatic assays
Interpret laboratory findings for differential diagnosis of anaemia
Interpret preload parameters for volume management
Affective skills acquired after attending this Webinar
The participant is aware of:
when to follow and when to deviate from recommendations and suggestions in PBM guidelines in individual cases
how to document decision making
how to inform patients, how to assess and consider their preferences
the responsibility in ensuring an adequate, evidence-based patient blood management protocol
This Webinar is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Masimo
