The Superior Hiking Trail Story book came out last April—just in time for the Covid shutdown! Nonetheless the book is receiving rave reviews and has been selling briskly.
Rudi Hargesheimer tells the story with over 400 color photos, many quotes from trail users, and assistance from extensive interviews with trail volunteers and leaders. From no trail at all in 1986, it has become the “second best long trail in the nation” as ranked by Backpacker Magazine readers. The story starts before 1986 discussing the history of the North Shore and how the trail is linked to historical usages predating the vision of a 300-mile long hiking trail. Since its beginnings, there have been many success tales and some interesting failure stories that today’s hikers are not aware of at all. This book tells all!
The Expo presentation will discuss the format of the book, the trail’s early history and a step by step chronicling of the trail building and maintaining process. Several short segments of the book will be featured in the presentation. Volunteers will be applauded, of course! More book info at: NorthShorePhotoArt.com.
