Presenting community:

Nubanusit Neighborhood & Farm
Peterborough, New Hampshire, USA

Founded in 2008, Nubanusit Neighborhood & Farm, an intentional community in Peterborough, New Hampshire, has 29 households that share 113 acres of farm land, fields, forests with trails, a pond, nearly a mile of riverfront, an equipment barn, woodworking shop, and a central wood-pellet heating system. If you enjoy growing your own food and/or raising animals, but would love to share the labor among neighbors, we would love to have you join our "community-steading" efforts. Currently, the community has a neighbor-led farming venture called Roots, Chicken Club, Pastured Meat Group raising cows and sheep, Permaculture Club, and Common Gardens Team.

Neighbors gather twice weekly for potlucks and monthly common meals prepared by neighbors in the Common House. The Events, Activities, and Traditions (EAT) team hosts regular gatherings throughout the year such as maple sugaring, Nubi Olympics, end-of-summer campout, apple cidering, Halloween, Nubi Gnomes gift exchange, and more. Neighbors range in age from a baby to 93 years old.

There are plenty of opportunities for people to get involved based on their interests and skills. Teams include Buildings and Grounds, Common Gardens, Common House, Design Review, Equipment, Events, Activities, and Traditions (EAT), Farm, Finance, Forest & Trails, Heat & Hot Water (Boilers), Membership, Steering, and Tech. Neighbors gather monthly for Plenary, a community-wide meeting to discuss and make decisions on proposals affecting the full community. Decisions are made using a modified consensus process.

The neighborhood is located just over a mile (with a sidewalk along the entire route) from downtown Peterborough, which has a library, restaurants, and shops. Peterborough, NH is located under 2 hours from Boston, Brattleboro, VT, Northampton, MA, and the White Mountains.
