Things to keep in mind about the mastermind process:- Masterminds cultivate relationships built on honesty, love, and respect. They’re a safe place to not be perfect. It’s a place to practice a healthy balance of wants and wisdom.
- Mastermind members share networks, resources, experience, and wisdom.
- Members must be willing to be honest about where they're at and ask for help.
- Listen as if you were intending to introduce the person speaking to someone else you know who could help them. Ask questions from that place.
- Arrive to each call with a clearly described goal or objective and an indication for what kind of support you would like. Having this already determined will enhance your ability to be present with those speaking.
- While there is value to being in the hot seat, I’ve always seen the biggest lightbulb “Aha” moments around the room from members during someone else’s hot seat. During YOUR hot seat, you’re typically asking about what you know you don’t know. During the rest of the hot seats, you’re hearing about what you don’t know you don’t know.
- Clarifying questions carry potency. When everyone present is clear on the problem, solutions are natural and easy. Without clarity, you’ll have a hard time moving forward with success, and results will not be complete and long-lasting.
- “A problem well stated and understood is half solved. Usually, you’ll notice that the answer comes out in the questioning process. Still, if you’re not clear on what the problem IS, it’s exceptionally difficult to solve it, as you end up adding further complexity/and or solving a problem that’s adjacent or a symptom, but not the actual root cause.”
- There are three types of questions to ask:
- Chunking up questions in order to zoom out and see the bigger picture,
- Chunking down questions in order to zoom in,
- Segue questions to change the topic entirely.
- Keep questions and insights short and concise
- Use the hand-raise tool
- Confidentiality is a must; do not share anything outside the group without the full consent of the person who shared.
- Be kind and considerate, play full out, take notes, keep an open mind, and don’t sugarcoat.
