The famed Pioneer building is proud to anchor the East end of the Grand Boulevard strip for Art Crawl! Over a dozen artist studios will open for a peak behind their process, in progress works, and art for sale.The Pioneer was converted into artist studios in 1994 by the Fracassa family and is home to a diverse group of artists, ranging in age from their 20s to their 90s. Some tenants have remained for decades, setting a community tone that fosters idea sharing and collaboration. Presenting the opening of "Mouse All Stars Show", a Pop-Up group exhibition showcasing 20 talented artists with works that are 12 x 14 or smaller.Mouse is an artist-run gallery in an old house in Detroit, MI. Founded in 2023, Mouse works to commission and exhibit new work from emerging artists, with a particular focus on practices that engage notions of intimacy and domesticity at small scales. The space itself is both domestic and intimate, with a gallery staged in a the unusual setting of a Michigan basement. Bryce Detroit is an Afrofuturist artist, producer, and cultural architect that uses arts and cultural programming as mechanisms for world-building. Founder of The Garage, active since 2014, the space serves as a portal to a world where radical imagination rooted in ancestral literacy is the guiding force and as a critical piece of a burgeoning, neighborhood-rooted cultural and economic infrastructure. "Road Work" is Bryce Detroit's multi-pronged public arts project, which includes a “The Hood is Closed to Gentrifiers” at The Shephard, has also had iterations across Turtle Island provoking dialogues on the historical context of gentrification while uplifting 21st century trailblazers. Donald Calloway is an interdisciplinary artist known for transforming found objects into powerful mixed-media works that explore memory, identity, and place. Raised in Jefferson Chalmers, he studied at the College for Creative Studies and has exhibited for over 30 years at venues including the Charles H. Wright Museum and the Detroit Institute of Arts. His signature “Blue Baby” series and long-running “Cheap Wine & Chicken” show reflect a deeply personal and community-rooted practice.
